The absolute worst excuse of customer service I have had. The woman who worked at the front counter to “greet” the guests is so rude. We walked in just to see what the ship entailed. We knew nothing about it. She just started rambling off how much it cost to get in but said we could go in the gift shop if we wanted. We walked in and kept walking thru another open door- not knowing that was then part of the museum. We walked approximately 10 steps in and stopped. We were looking back because we figured we must have gone too far. But before we could wAlk back to the gift shop, we heard someone say (extremely rudely) “excuuuuse me”. (The tone of her voice indicating that we were trying to sneak past. ) I replied, laughingly, “yeah. We just realized that we came too far”. Then I said, “for future reference you should close that door so it’s obvious where the gift shop ends.” And she rudely said, “ no thank you. I’m fine”. I then suggested that she shouldn’t speak so rudely to customers or potential customers, and she again stated “I’m fine. Good day”. Unbelievable! And sooo unnecessary!

You need a good 2-3 hours to do justice to this ship. Just amazing. The people that take care of it are doing a fantastic job. We bought a bunch of stuff in the gift shop - part of the proceeds go to the up keep of the ship. It is one of the few remaining ships that was at the Normandy invasion. Worth It!!

Overall, interesting historical site to visit. Enjoyed touring the ship. There were a lot of military exhibits, but I was disappointed that they didn't give much actual history of this ship and how it was used. Large exhibit of local veterans.
A little difficult to get to. Google does NOT give you the correct directions to the parking lot, so just stay on the main road and look for signage.
I suggest wearing gloves as you will have to touch a lot of frequently touched areas to navigate the ship and climb several ladders.

Nicely restored LST with great history. It was used to carry new automobiles from Muskegon to Milwaukee after it came to the Great Lakes after the war. There are very few of these left to see, and well worth the time.

I'm not sure why more people don't know about or talk about this great floating museum. The group that operates this has pulled together an impressive array of memorabilia from throughout history. Artifacts range from WWI through the War in Afghanistan. They have sections dedicated to the veterans and equipment from each of the wars, plus an area for the “Muskegon connection,” as well as a memorial to K-9 warriors.

A treasure like LST 393 deserved to be saved and supported. Nothing brings history to life quite like touring an old ship. Learning about the people who served on board, and the feats of service and bravery that ships like LST 393 represent, is inspiring.

Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for students. You can tour the whole thing in about an hour to 90 minutes. But if you have the time, I highly recommend spending more time there. Stop and read the placards with information. Take a few minutes in each section of the ship to take it all in. LST 393 is a big ship, and sometimes things so immense are hard to grasp. But if you spend a little time there, you’ll soon have an appreciation for those brave souls — some who gave, and some who gave all.

Toured this boat today. Meant a lot to me because my grandfather was on it years ago. Great to see a part of our history so well preserved.

Actual LST from World War II now docked in Muskegon. Museum inside tells history of the role of LST's during the multiple invasions of WWII. Visitors are encouraged to walk through the LST to visualize the gates, the bridge, and other important parts of the ship. Preserved LST's are very rare. This is a must while in Muskegon, MI

This attaction doesn't seem to get much press but it was well worth the stop.
I am just a regular person (not a diehard WWII, Navy or nautical fan) and this was my favorite thing about Muskegon.

It doesn't cost much and is run by nice volunteers. Shows movies in the summer, though it was raining the day we went.

We really enjoyed it and the 1940's music that was playing throughout the boat as we toured it. It really was impressive with good history. Plus since it's large, people who get claustrophic shouldn't have much trouble.

So glad we went!

I had a tour in this shop, and man it was awesome and very emotional. They had so many special things from different wars. It was such an honor for me to give the LST393 one of my posters with my poem about PTSD. And they actually put it up there a couple of weeks ago. The tourguide was so kind! Such a pleasure visiting this ship!
