Today we’d like to recognize a team member that has been with us for over 45 years, Cathy VanSlooten. “It’s been a lot of years since the Lord opened the door for me at LDS and what a journey it’s been after that first step. I’ve been blessed to be a small part of the Landscape Design team for so many years through all the successes and challenges we have faced. LDS leadership cares about their team and has allowed me the flexibility necessary to maintain a health balance with faith, family and work. I am very grateful for the opportunities I have had to use my gifts, help problem solve, develop processes, and be a resource to lend a hand where I could. I have great respect and appreciation for the entire team at LDS. Thank You!” -Cathy VanSlooten. At Landscape Design Services, we are fortunate to have several team members in the “Century Club”. Cathy started with us on June 19, 1978. She started as a receptionist. After completing college she became the LDS’s sole accountant, and now works with us as a payroll coordinator. Thank you for your 45+ years Cathy! We are truly grateful for your time and dedication to LDS, and thrilled to have you as a part of our team.

👏🏼 We recently had four team members recognized with MICHIGAN NURSERY AND LANDSCAPE ASSOCIATION Century Club Awards. Chris Van Ommen, Doug Miner, Kelly Karp, and Mario Ramirez were all awarded for their years of service. Each year, MNLA honors individuals who have worked in the industry for 25, 40, and 50 years or more. These recipients of this honor are noted for contributions to the professional development and the growth of the industry, as well as their dedication and commitment. Congratulations to all the MNLA 2023 Century Club Inductees, and thank you to our team members receiving this award for their dedication and years of service.

This past Wednesday, we celebrated the retirement of Mike DeWaard. “It’s been great working with all the team members at Landscape Design.  Especially those in accounting.  It’s great testimony to Landscape Design, and the Bakker family, that so many have been with the company for many years.  I would like to thank Matt Bakker for taking a chance and hiring me 19 years ago.  I pray that you all have a healthy productive and blessed lives.  Thanks to all” - Mike DeWaard “Mike DeWaard has been a quiet force at Landscape Design Services for over 19 years.  Mike joined the team bringing experience and wisdom in finance and accounting.  Mike was a great help through the 2009 financial crisis, and has diligently paid our vendors processing the thousands of invoices we receive annually.  He has been a great asset to the team and has made many contributions to our success.” - Matt Bakker Thank you for your years of Service, Mike. We are happy to announce our latest team member to have successfully completed training and achieved his Class A CDL, Jessie DeVries. Interested team members are offered comprehensive online training covering 48 aspects of commercial driving. At least 10 lessons of behind the wheel on the road training and at least 20 hours of in-person instruction. Training is offered as a benefit to our team members and is comprised of a combination of paid time and team members investing into their career advancement. Congratulations, Jessie!

Holy guacamole 🥑 ! We recently worked with McFarlin Stanford and the The Grow Group on some team exercises to prepare for the upcoming season. Our landscape maintenance operations professionals spent some time last week with snow on the ground preparing for the Green Season. We reviewed our shared goals for 2024 and culminated with a guacamole competition that reinforced that team works!
